Growth should help pay for growth. There is a real tension: Oakville wants growth, growth requires infrastructure, infrastructure costs money, and taxpayers pay part of it.
For every major development, residents should be able to see what infrastructure it requires, who pays what, and how Town taxes, Regional taxes, development charges, and user fees add up.
Halton Region has identified a $5 billion infrastructure need for 2031 to 2051. I will demand measurable spending and a clear public record before Council says yes.
What I’ll do
If elected, I will push Council to require a real infrastructure plan before saying yes to major development, not simply approve growth and hope the infrastructure catches up later.
I'll take that same fight to the Region, because many of the decisions that shape our roads, healthcare, schools, and other critical infrastructure are made at the regional level.
